Convert images to AVIF for the ultimate web performance optimization. AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is the newest image format โ it produces files 20-50% smaller than WebP and significantly smaller than JPG, all while maintaining excellent visual quality.
All modern browsers now support AVIF: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. If you are already using WebP for web optimization, AVIF takes it a step further. The format supports both lossy and lossless compression, transparency, HDR, and wide color gamut.
AVIF uses the AV1 video codec for image compression โ a technology developed by the Alliance for Open Media (Google, Apple, Mozilla, and others). It achieves better compression ratios than any older format by using advanced prediction and transform techniques.

FAQ
Generally yes โ AVIF produces smaller files at comparable quality. However, AVIF encoding is slower. Use AVIF for static images on websites; WebP is still fine for dynamic or user-generated content.
All major modern browsers support AVIF: Chrome 85+, Firefox 93+, Safari 16.4+, Edge 85+. Older browsers do not, so use with fallbacks.
