Most presentations created today are saved as PPTX — the Office Open XML format PowerPoint has used since 2007. But plenty of the world still runs on the older binary PPT format: school and government computers with PowerPoint 2003, legacy training systems, kiosk and signage players, and some third-party tools that only parse the classic .ppt file. This converter downgrades your modern deck to the legacy format those systems expect.
The trade-off is worth knowing before you convert. PPTX stores your slides as compressed XML inside a ZIP container, which is why it recovers better from crashes and usually produces smaller files. PPT stores everything in one binary stream, which older software reads happily but newer PowerPoint features cannot fully express. Effects introduced after 2003 — morph transitions, 3D models, SVG icons, some SmartArt — are simplified or flattened during conversion, so review the deck once after converting.
The converter parses the PPTX package (a ZIP archive of XML parts), reads each slide's content — text, shapes, images, tables, and notes — and rebuilds it in the binary OLE2 structure that legacy PowerPoint uses. Standard elements convert cleanly: text boxes, fonts, images, charts, tables, and slide ordering all carry across. Elements that did not exist in the 97–2003 era are replaced with their closest static equivalent. Because the conversion happens inside your browser, confidential decks never touch a server.
